Bypassing a thermostat on a coffee maker dangerous?
I have a Mr Coffee DRX5 (a basic 4 cup drip coffee maker). Anywho, the machine doesn't heat up as hot as I would like so I disassembled the bottom and noticed: two main power wires -> a small circuit board (i'm assuming the thermostat)->the heating element. On the heating element there are two thermal fuses inline.(rated at 270C each.)
I bypassed the thermostat circuit board and hooked up the power lines directly to the heating element. Is there anyway to tell how much juice this thing is getting now and how hot it will get without the thermostat to regulate it? I have plugged it in and it gets very hot a lot faster but then I chickened out and unplugged it quickly, bc i don't know if it is stable and didn't want to burn down the house.
Any electricians have advice?
Unless you know what you are doing it would be very dangerous and could, make that would, start a fire if you are not electrocuted first.
