Yes, you will be able to make lattes with it. With regard to the grinder, yes, you will need to get a decent burr grinder (don't get any the whirly blade grinders). Most burr grinders are either very expensive or very poor quality. A lot of people who are just starting out with espresso are quite happy with Infinity grinder from Capresso.
