Pure water could be defined as the water which has very minute amounts or no impurities at all. This water has often been found to contain highly irritant and toxic substances like sulphurous acid in areas where there is high pollution of the air by sulphur particles.
Now such toxic and polluted water is definitely not fit to be consumed by humans. This necessitates the use of a potent purification system to refine and purify the water before consumption. There are a myriad of ways in which water can be purified. There are different methods available for purification, depending upon whether it is done domestically or commercially.
The most common and viable means of purifying large amounts of water needed for domestic use is application of the water filter pitcher method. This water filter pitcher method makes use of a very basic and simple technology of filtration. The water to be filtered is stored or held in a pitcher shaped vessel fitted in side the water filter pitcher. Now the original water which is to be purified is allowed to trickle in. this water is then allowed to pass through a carbon filter, which strains out all the impurities. The filtered or the strained water is then collected in another part of the pitcher water filter.
If the pros and cons of this method of purification are considered then it would be clear that the pitcher filter has a limited range of applicability and practical usability. This is due to the factor that water contains a huge range of impurities in it. The impurities can range from bacterial or microbial impurities which are disease producing or harmful to life. Another type of impurities is of the chemical type. The chemicals themselves are of a huge variety. These chemicals are present in molecular forms. The carbon filter method used in the pitcher water filter is not sufficient to cover all the different aspects of the water purification. Hence this method has a very limited amount of practical usability. The pros are just that these filters come at a cheap price.
