kitchen countertop removal?
i have a normal formica countertop that i need to take out completely. i have a (GE) gas cooktop that sits on top of the counter. right below it is a (Kenmore) single wall oven. so there is no cabinets or empty space below the cooktop. i dont know if i can remove the cooktop on my own or do i need to hire a professional for it? if this is something i can do on my own, can someone please guide me as to how i should proceed with it? do i need to first take out the wall oven? does the cooktop just sit on the counter or is it glued? do i need to disconnect the gas/power from the cooktop or can i just raise it even while it is all wired up? help or directions would be greatly appreciated... thanks
1, The countertop is likely to be screwed from the bottom (inside the under cabinets), that how I do it when installing them. The should be "L" brackets which screw out easily.
2. The oven should be screwed in at the sides and top, Open the oven door and look for removable panels (thin Strip around the edges of the oven). remove screws and it should pul out easy. Depending on if the oven is electric or gas get a pro for this, Electric might be ok caue you can turn it off at the Fuse Board but gas is just too dangerous to mess with.
3. The cooktop should have small "L" shaped brackets similar to those on the countertop. Unscrew and just lift out it may have a little silicone sealer on it but that will just pull away when you leaver out the cooktop.
The countertop should also have a bead of silicone arount the wall edge for water proffing.
Hope this helps
