Ok,so last week we went to our neighbors for the first time for dinner. They made an "awesome" italian dinner. It started with antipasto apetizers,italian bread,salad,manicotti,penne pasta,sausage,meatballs,etc....it was an amazing dinner! Then with our dessert they have a Keurig coffee maker,so we had a choice of what kind of coffee we wanted! It was a great dinner! So.....I want to have them over for dinner next. I'm not much of a cook. I have a few specialties but I really want to make them something nice. My question is,I have a really good recipe for Pepper Steak that you make in a crock pot......it's really good,and we usually have it over white rice. What should I have with the pepper steak.....any suggestions for appetizers,etc. I really want to make it special for them. Thank you!

Your pepper steak and rice dish sound wonderful. It is better to stick with what you know for company. Good call. You definitely need something green like roasted asparagus. So easy. Break woody ends off asparagus and coat with a little olive oil and salt. Roast in a hot 450 oven on cookie sheet until crisp tender. About ten minutes. A nice fall salad with sliced apple or pear and pecans with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Dinner rolls. For appetizer do some stuffed mushrooms. These can be stuffed ahead of time til you pop in the oven. But what will make your dinner great is not the food. It is the atmosphere you create. Stay calm and relaxed and just be a gracious hostess. When your guests feel like you are nervous and trying to hard it makes them uncomfortable. Just put on a smile and make them feel at home. That is what they will remember. Hope that helps.
