How long does it take for the weight to wiggle on a pressure canner?
I am canning for the first time. I have been following the instructions to a T yet the weight won't "wiggle". I have a 22qt Mirro canner, let the steam come out for 10 minutes then put the weight on. All that happened was that steam came out of the little holes in the weight, no wiggling. How long does it take to wiggle or do I turn it down now??
You don't say how high the heat on the stove is. If it's not on high enough to produce enough steam to make the weight wiggle (indicating 15 psi), then try again with a higher heat. Once you get there, it will take trial and error to know what heat will maintain the wiggle.
It took a little getting used to, but I love my pressure canner. I also have a pressure cooker. The canner uses a dial indicator, and the cooker uses a weight.
