Is soft-serve ice cream as bad for you as real ice cream?
I'm talking about the ice cream that is sold at Dairy Queen or Tastee-Freeze. Does it have as much fat as real ice cream? Does it have other qualities besides fat and sugar that are harmful?
Well, Dairy Queen ice cream is actually ice milk and isn't too bad for you. We don't have any Tastee-Freeze locations where I live so I can't comment on that establishment. Usually the soft serve stuff isn't as fattening as the places like Ben & Jerry's, Hagen-Daz, or Cold Stone. Most of their ice creams are high in butterfat. One thing about the more fattening ice creams is that they are more expensive. The butterfat that is in the ice creams make them tastes better and is a more expensive ingrediant. Some of the soft serve places are offering a sugar free and fat free ice cream now. My girlfriend says they are kinda hit or miss depending on the flavor you get. I prefer the real stuff. It doesn't hurt to treat yourself to a good old fashioned ice cream cone one in a while. Go ahead and indulge and don't feel guilty about it.
