Replacing wall oven in kitchen but the height of the new ones available, are smaller what can we do?
Our exisitng oven is 600mm x700mm. Most ovens i have priced as a replacement are 600mm in height. So we are 100mm short. The exisiting cupboard colour would be impossible to match as it is over 15 years old. Is there are tirm kits available to purchase in stainless steel which we could use to fill the gap? What else can we do??
My wife and I had the same problem here in Texas. Rather than tinker with the whole wall I added some 2X4 rails at the bottom to make a foundation for the new oven. We slid the new oven into the reduced opening to be sure it fit properly, then removed it for a while. Since our oven was in the wall itself and not in a cabinet, I got a piece of drywall from the home center and cut it to the size we needed. Then we used drywall mud to finish it off and sanded it smooth. After that we wallpapered over it to match the rest of the wall. Looks good if I do say so myself.
In your case, a cabinet shop could make a small panel to close the opening and a paint store or home center could match the color. Or, a cabinet shop could make a dummy drawer front for the opening. Compare that cost against a trim kit from the oven manufacturer.
